Background on ECA:
We are a unique learning environment that provides a non-traditional educational setting utilizing Internet-based, individualized self-paced instruction provided in nearly any location in southern California. ECA Teachers are remotely based and meet with students and families face-to-face virtually, or in-person, based on geographic location. Each of our students is assigned only one supervising teacher for a personalized approach to learning.

 

Duties of all ECA supervising teachers:

  • Coordinate the educational program for assigned students
  • Ensure each student has a fully executed master agreement
  • Ensure each student is enrolled in an appropriate course of study that includes all relevant core and, as appropriate, supplemental and/or elective courses
  • Direct the distribution of curriculum to students
  • Monitor student schedules within the school's student information system and student learning platform/s to ensure consistency
  • Every learning period, personally assign to each student work that is aligned to grade-level standards at a level of quality and intellectual challenge substantially equivalent to in-person instruction
  • Every learning period, personally assign to each student work that is equivalent to the amount of work the student would be expected to complete within a classroom-based environment
  • Every learning period, for each student maintain an accurate Assignment and Work Record (AWR) including a complete listing of assigned and completed student work
  • Actively monitor student engagement and progress; communicate progress with students and parents/guardians
  • Meet with each student face-to-face (virtually or in-person) at least once per learning period
  • Meet with each student and/or parent/guardian face-to-face (virtually or in-person) at least once per learning period to collect, review, assess, and report student learning by reviewing the full body of work produced by the student during the learning period
  • Each learning period, accurately calculate and record each student's attendance within the school's student information system
  • Communicate student attendance to families on an ongoing basis (never later than 7 days after the close of a learning period}
  • Meet all school issued reporting and compliance deadlines
  • Administer all school and state-mandated assessments in a timely manner
  • Collaborate with the school's special education team and other staff who support students' learning
  • Provide opportunities for live synchronous instruction and live interaction as assigned
  • Work with assigned students to provide instruction in a virtual learning environment
  • Use technology as an everyday tool for teaching, learning, and communicating
  • Teach students and their families how to use online and supplemental curriculum
  • Provide consultation and/or technical assistance to students and families
  • Adapt instruction and curriculum to meet the needs of the student
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the school and family
  • Communicate with each student through synchronous online tools such as Zoom or Google Hangout, instant message, email, and/or phone on an as needed basis
  • Promote parental involvement in the learning process
  • Identify opportunities for additional tutoring for assigned students
  • Read and be familiar with the school's approved charter
  • Read and be familiar with each student's master agreement
  • Assist students and families in the selection of coursework to advance students towards graduation; manage student schedules; track student grades; monitor course progress; and confer with the school counselor as needed
  • Select and requisition books, instructional aids, and instructional supplies for the student; assist with the collection of school property when the relationship between the school and the student ends
  • Closely monitor and review student transcripts
  • Maintain accurate grades within the school's student information system
  • Meet with families to create an Individualized Learning Plan (ILP) for each student
  • Stay current with relevant research and teaching/learning trends as required to improve student academic achievement
  • Remain familiar with school resources
  • Maintain updated curriculum training
  • Analyze data to evaluate effectiveness of curriculum and teaching methods
  • Engage in EPIC's process of employee observation and review
  • Participate in school activities such as field trips, community events, and graduation/promotion ceremonies when requested by supervisor.

Employment Requirements:

  • Valid, current, and appropriate California state teaching credential
  • State and federal background clearance (LiveScan) to work with students (Education Code Section 44237)
  • Proof of a clear TB test dated within the last 60 days (Education Code Section 49406) upon employment and thereafter updated every four years
