POSITION SUMMARY

The licensed school psychologist conducts comprehensive psycho-educational evaluations; consults with school personnel and parents regarding planning, implementing, and evaluating individual and group interventions; and functions as a member of the special education administrative team in providing services to students.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

  • Functions as a member of the special education administrative team
  • Administers, scores, analyzes, and interprets intellectual, academic, social/emotional/behavioral, and other psychometric assessments
  • Conducts systematic observations and functional assessments
  • Interviews with parents, teachers, and others to gather relevant data regarding student performance
  • Integrates all elements of assessment data into a cohesive whole for the purpose of resolving initial referral questions and determining eligibility for special education
  • Functions as a member of the student support team for the purpose of reviewing referrals and determining appropriate actions
  • Edits and finalizes the evaluation team's written report
  • Communicates test results, conclusions, and recommendations clearly and concisely through oral and written reporting to school staff, parents, and other service providers, as appropriate
  • Consults with school staff, administration, and parents in resolving students' academic, social, emotional, and behavioral concerns
  • Collaborates with school staff and/or parents in developing, implementing, evaluating, and maintaining behavioral and other interventions
  • Consults and collaboration with mental health, medical, social services, and other communities’ providers, as appropriate
  • Provides technical assistance to school staff and parents regarding behavior management, child development, and special education procedures, as necessary and appropriate
  • Provides information to parents regarding the referral/assessment process, special education services available within the school, and their rights related to special education
  • Provides direct and indirect services specified within students' IEPs
  • Maintains an accurate record of student, parent, and other contacts
  • Attends training sessions, conferences, seminars, and department and district meetings
  • Keeps abreast of changing developments, trends, and instructional and educational technologies
  • Assists in acting as the LEA representative in IEP meetings
  • Assists special education staff in any area needed
  • Helps problem-solve to find solutions to school and student needs
  • Performs other job functions as assigned

 

ESSENTIAL JOB SKILLS

  • Valid, current, school psychologist credential
  • State and federal background clearance (LiveScan) to work with students (Education Code Section 44237)
  • Proof of a clear TB test dated within the last 60 days (Education Code Section 49406)
  • Positive attitude and growth mindset

  • Ability to collect and analyze data from a variety of sources
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively and demonstrate leadership abilities
